Action
Well, you heard it here first. Sometime AFTER I wrote the last blog entry, someone in a position decided to send some naval ships from Norfolk to the Gulf Of Mexico.
A day late and a few dollars short. That support should have been fueled up and ready to go when it looked like the storm could hit an area known to be BELOW SEA LEVEL.
But what did we all expect. It is not like the president has never froze like a deer in the headlights when immediate action was called for. Obviously, "homeland security" is not looking at the homeland very hard. I bet the people in the Gulf Coast area feel very secure.
Maybe there will be hearings into WHY it took so long for someone to decide to send in the heavy equipment. Why was the Navy still in Norfolk NOT ready to go last week? Why were the ships not staged off the Space Coast of FL when it was clear that Central Florida was in the clear? For that matter, support ships could have followed the storm in.
And if there was no disaster, call it "training" and be done with it. No harm no foul.
But, this did not happen. Someone was on vacation and apparently could not make a decision.
Great leader indeed. Some people can not lead ants to a picnic, yet still manage to get elected.
Meanwhile, things are getting WORST and not better. I do not think that all the flooded areas will come back. The jobs are all underwater, the houses are all underwater, and the people are being shipped to Texas.
So why even bother to rebuild? Who are they going to rebuild for? The people that are now in Texas? Will they go back with no jobs and no hope of ever getting their property insured, or will they try to find work elsewhere and start a new life? The maps need to be redrawn. The United States mainland is smaller, and the Gulf Of Mexico is larger. And someone needs to tell the president, once he is finished riding his bike.
I went to the French Quarter once. I am glad I did when I had the chance. I do not think anyone will ever visit the quarter again.

Nah, they will rebuild but it will be the sanitised Disney version of the Big Easy.
Just don't even know what to say. Its to devastating.
I don't understand why all those helicopters can't be dropping water and food to all those people trapped in New Orleans, even if they can't be taken out right this moment.
i just cannot fathom why your govt's response has been so appalling - i guess somebody knows he doesn't have to face election again...disgusting
The thing that makes me the most angry is that hurricanes are never a compelete suprise. We always have a day or two of warning. Why weren't all the guard troops and naval vessels put into place as soon as we knew this was going to happen? I just don't get it.
Another good post. I think they WILL rebuild New Orleans, I really do. But no, it can't be the same.
Why in the world did they send those good folks to TEXAS? Really, why? It seems bizarre to me. I mean, the Astrodome? That's horrible!
